How to Install Flange Mount Bearing?
There are various types of bearings and numerous applications can be hard to keep them all straight in line. Flange mount bearing provides support for a shaft that runs perpendicular to the bearing’s mounting surface. On external housings, flanges are used with bearings to help securely position them for reliable operation. Installing Flange Bearings can be tricky because of the thin aluminum outer shell.

So, basically you can use 3 procedures to install the aluminum backed Flange Bearings. As each one is unique with new challenges which must be addressed, so you need to make sure that you select the most suitable process according to your conditions and capabilities, it will provide you with the best result.
Machine the housing to the recommended I.D. for a slip fit, apply adhesive to the O.D. and slip the bearing into the housing. Let the adhesive dry up properly and to cure as specified by the adhesive manufacturer. Never allow any of the adhesive to touch the bearing liner, it will harden and then interfere with the proper running clearance for the bearing.
OR
Machine the housing bore as recommended to the press fit tolerance in the PBC Linear catalog. Freeze the Flange mount bearing at 0°F (-17.75°C) for 30-45 minutes wearing gloves, remove the bearings from the freezer and slip them into the housing. As soon as the room temperature heats up, there should be full contact between the bearing and the housing. The greatest advantage to this technique over traditional pressing is greater accuracy in alignment. Due to misalignment and shearing of material, PBC Linear does not recommend a press fit, either manually with hammer or mallet, or with the aid of an arbor press.
