Know all about flange mount bearings
Flange mount bearings are a form of bearing unit that supports heavy loads when the shaft axis is perpendicular to the mounting surface. It is a rigid housing which allows the unit to rotate within a stable and carefully controlled environment. The housing is bolted to the foundation of the unit, and allows the outer ring to stay still while the inner ring is able to freely rotate.
Flange mount bearings are used for different applications. Usually, these units are used for light-moderate duty applications such as conveyors, food processing machinery, HVAC belt drives, medical processing, and material handling. They are sometimes used for light industrial applications.
Flange mount bearing housings can be made of non-corrosive, lightweight zinc die cast material, stainless steel, pressed steel, or strong, impact resistant UHMW-PE. The type of material used can depend on the intended application. For example, pressed steel housing will feature a porous, flanged bearing insert, which is fitted inside a sphere made of die cast zinc. To provide lubrication, the flange mount bearing manufacturer uses a felt strip. The bearing unit is then fitted with a spring-lid oil cap, which can be mounted to the unit either horizontally or vertically. Finally, to reduce noise and vibration, the unit is mounted with rubber grommets.
